About discipline hearings and outcomes
A discipline hearing is usually a public process in which witness testimony and documented evidence are evaluated by the Discipline Committee. Similar to the Inquiry Committee, the Discipline Committee is an independent decision-making body made up of CTCMA registrants and the public. Unlike the Inquiry Committee, the Discipline Committee is authorized to make factual findings about the registrant's conduct, competence or health, and impose an appropriate outcome. Outcomes from a disciplinary hearing are listed under section 39 of the Health Professions Act, and can range from no further action being taken to suspension or cancellation of registration. Suspension and cancellation of registration is reserved for significant competence and conduct issues.
Discipline Committee decisions are subject to review by the British Columbia Supreme Court as per section 40 of the Health Professions Act.
About hearing notifications
Hearing notifications will be published on this page two to four weeks in advance of the hearing.
Hearing notifications will include:
the full name of the registrant,
a full citation, and
the date, time and location of the hearing.
Hearing notifications will not include information that could identify the complainant or any other third parties.
Discipline hearings are open to the public except when, upon application by one of the parties involved, it is determined that the proceedings, or part(s) of the proceedings, should be closed. Members of the public who would like to attend are asked to provide their name, email address, and phone number to the College at email@example.com in advance of the hearing.
Note: Hearing schedules are subject to change.
